Shirin Shallwani is a physiotherapist and a certified lymphedema therapist, currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Ottawa School of Rehabilitation Sciences. She is also a research associate at the McGill University Lymphedema Research Program, where she is involved with investigating lymphedema risk reduction strategies in women with gynecological cancer.

Biography

Shirin Shallwani is a physiotherapist and a certified lymphedema therapist, currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Ottawa School of Rehabilitation Sciences. She is passionate about clinical research and evidence-based practice in cancer rehabilitation. Shirin has over 10 years of clinical experience with cancer and lymphedema patient populations. Her current PhD research involves exploring leisure physical activity in individuals diagnosed with advanced cancer.

She is also a research associate at the McGill University Lymphedema Research Program, where she is involved with investigating lymphedema risk reduction strategies in women with gynecological cancer. To date, Shirin has published over 15 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, one textbook chapter and several professional magazine articles. She has delivered over 35 presentations at national and international conferences. She has also been invited to guest lecture at the McGill University School of Physical & Occupational Therapy since 2012 and has instructed post-graduate oncology courses through the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) and other independent organizations. Her recent volunteer experiences include serving on the Executive Committee and the National Education Committee of the CPA Oncology Division and the National Lymphedema Conference Scientific Committee.
