Summary
Neck pain is a recurrent disorder. The evidence indicates that changes persist in neuromuscular and sensorimotor control between episodes when symptoms have resolved. This points to the need to focus on rehabilitation and long term self-maintenance programs and just not pain relief. This webinar will overview the nature of changes in the articular, neuromuscular and sensorimotor systems with pain and injury, provide the evidence for specificity of techniques of management for each system and the need for and benefits of multimodal management.
Objectives
- To present neck pain as a recurrent disorder requiring rehabilitation to slow disease progression and lessen recurrences
- To enhance participant’s knowledge of the evidence which indicates that an individualised multimodal approach is best practice management for the patient with mechanical neck pain
- To emphasise that outcomes should focus on restoration of impairments and not pain alone
