Summary

Following this course, participants will be able to use our clinical decision support tool to guide the diagnosis and management of traumatic pathologies of the distal upper limb in adults. Participants will learn the clinical features and specific tests with the highest diagnostic performance to include in their assessment, based on the systematic review conducted as part of a master’s project in 2025.

Objectives

  1. Recognize the main clinical features and interpret the results of specific tests indicative of certain traumatic wrist or hand conditions.
  2. Understand how to use the clinical decision support tool, as well as which specific tests to use to screen for certain serious wrist and hand conditions.
  3. Identify situations that would benefit from a medical referral and/or medical imaging for further evaluation of the injury.

Musculoskeletal injuries to the hand are rare, and I have limited specific knowledge regarding this anatomical region. For my own purposes, I would have liked more information on neural disorders affecting the distal upper limb as well, but I understand that a choice was made to focus on the most common conditions.

Bon travail

A great tool in development. We still need more in-depth studies to help strengthen decision-making.
