Summary

The evaluation and treatment of nerves are often considered by most as something very irritable for patients and therefore many clinicians neglect to deal with neurodynamic issues. Neurodynamics shouldn’t only be evaluated in the presence of neurological symptoms. Many other conditions need a thorough exploration of neurodynamics. This short course aims to help clinicians better recognize when neurodyamics is implicated in different musculoskeletal conditions and understand the mechanisms driving neurodynamic issues. It will also provide them with useful tools to help their patients.

Objectives

  1. Better understand the concepts and mechanisms around neurodynamics.
  2. Understand the pathophysiology of nerves and neurodynamic issues.
  3. Recognize pain caused by neurodynamic issues through the history and subjective
    assessment.
  4. Recognize the most common regions affected by neurodynamic issues.
  5. Better understand common differential diagnosis between neurodynamic issues and other
    musculoskeletal pathologies.
  6. Better understand when to do neurodynamic testing and how to interpret it correctly.
  7. Discover the different options of management for neurodynamic issues (exercises, manual
    therapy techniques and education).

Good refresher course

Alexis Gougeon was great in delivering the information. It is a good refresher course and i have learnt how to combine other techniques with neural mobilization techniques. It would have been great if we had screenshots about all the tests as well.

Some technical elements were a bit difficult (since I have no training in manual therapy), but overall the information was very useful.

Very interesting. Such an essential component, yet one we too often forget.

Neural mobilization
★★★★★

Thank you so much for bringing this up! In college, it’s taught as just one of many possible approaches… but once you’re out in the field, you quickly realize you can’t skip this step! I felt like 80% of my clients needed to be treated with neural mobilization! I’m glad to see I wasn’t too far off the mark back then. Lately, I’ve been trying to incorporate this with my clients who have severe to profound intellectual disabilities—a major challenge since they can’t guide us on their pain. It’s reassuring to see that I’m on the same track… ROM + impact on functional tasks, namely walking! I’ll have to add more tensioning! Thanks!

I really liked the topic. Both presenters were very knowledgeable about their subject. However, I would have liked to see one or two clinical examples… with a very brief assessment, a treatment, and a pre- and post-test.

Very interesting. Still disappointed that this presentation was in English when these people are clearly French speakers. Even with subtitles, I would have liked to grasp all the subtleties in French. Too bad.

★★★★★

Very good summary and update on the subject.

Very interesting, it enabled me to complete my understanding of the subject, I’m a T.phys and I’d had training on it, but I find that this one enabled me to understand neural mobilizations even better.

Course that lived up to my expectations. Thank you very much!

FAQ

Each health professional who is a member of a college or association must complete continuing education units (CEU) annually. Here is some information about kinesiologists, physiotherapists and physiotherapy technologists.

Kinesiologist, FKQ

All accredited members of the Fédération des Kinésiologues du Québec (FKQ) must accumulate 30 credits of recognized continuing education every two years from the year of their accreditation. These credits can be obtained from continuing education offered by the FKQ and/or other organizations recognized by the FKQ. In order to facilitate your task of analyzing the credits granted to your course, the FKQ Continuing Education Committee gives you access to an equivalency grid.

For each* of your courses at Bia education, you will receive a certificate of participation confirming the number of hours of course received.

*Excluding course not accessible to kinesiologists, this exclusion will be mentioned in the course description.

Kinesiologist-kinesitherapist, A.K.K.O.M.Q.

All members of the A.K.K.O.M.Q. must accumulate continuing education units. The association intends to ensure the safety and quality of kinesiology and kinesiology-kinesitherapy interventions, by requiring its members to maintain and improve their knowledge through the many continuing education courses offered annually, and to put their skills into practice while respecting the code of ethics. Credits can be obtained from continuing education offered by the FKQ and/or other organizations recognized by the FKQ.

For each* of your courses at Bia education, you will receive a certificate of participation confirming the number of hours of course received.

*Excluding course not accessible to kinesitherapists, this exclusion will be mentioned in the course description.

Physiotherapist and physiotherapy technologist, OPPQ

In the case of physiotherapists, each member must have a minimum of 45 hours of continuing education units (CEU) during the reference period, which is three years. Of these 45 hours, at least 30 hours must be accumulated in formal learning activities. The remaining continuing education hours can be accumulated in autonomous, formal learning activities or in a combination of both categories.

A CEU is equivalent to one hour of course, which is the actual time spent by the member to acquire or update his or her knowledge or skills. In the context of a formal activity, the member is in a learning situation when acting as a participant. Time spent on breaks, meals or any other activity without academic content should therefore be subtracted from the calculation of CEUs.

A formal learning activity is defined as an activity designed and delivered by experts in the subject matter and with a predetermined structure, content, objectives and duration. All the course offered by Bia education are therefore likely to be considered as a formal learning activity. During your course at Bia education, you will receive a certificate attesting to the number of hours of continuous education granted to the event.

Then, it is the physiotherapist’s role to define whether the suggested training theme is related to his or her practice and will allow him or her to optimize his or her professional competence.
