Summary

Cancer is the most prevalent, disabling and costly health care condition for people in developed countries and presently impacts greater than 50% of the general population. This course will focus on an introduction to cancer pathology and its treatment and give clinicians an understanding of the disease and its impact on hematological, neurological, metabolic, and muscular function. In addition, the causes and mechanisms underlying cancer related pain, fatigue, and weakness will be covered in detail to provide a foundation for cancer patient assessment and choice of physiotherapy treatment modalities in general practice.

Objectives

  1. Recognize and understand the unique rehabilitation needs related to:
    • Cancer pathology and medical treatment interventions
    • The specific effects of surgical, chemotherapeutic and radiation protocols on functional capacity including: generalized hematological and metabolic alterations, disease and treatment related muscular weakness, chronic residual pain, cancer fatigue, and neurological dysfunction
  2. On the basis of the effects of cancer and treatment:
    • Derive an assessment plan with use of specific testing and outcome measures

Formation oncologie partie 1
★★★★★

Very good training, clear and well-structured information

★★★★★

Very interesting formation. I would like to have acces to the ppt of the 9.2 section. Can’t wait to follow the second formation.
Thank you !

★★★★★

Basic course, interesting for people new to oncology.

★★★★★

Adequately covers the basic knowledge required to work with oncology patients. On its own, however, I don’t think it’s enough.

★★★★★

Good training. Very relevant content for a professional new to this specialty. The only negative point is that I couldn’t ask my questions since the training is not in person!

★★★★★

Very informative

★★★★★

The course is very well explained, well structured and divided into different modules (approx. 30min each) so that you can follow it at your own pace and in stages. Lots of relevant information. Very little is known about this subject through the basic physiotherapy curriculum, so yes, it’s very relevant to talk about pathology before going into the more “physio” portion. I find that level 1 is rather the “basics” and that it provides an understanding of pathology, patients, and a basic assessment.

I’m looking forward to taking the other courses to complete my knowledge and expertise.

Great course!

★★★★★

excellent course

★★★★★

Excellent speaker and detailed content. Perhaps it would be good to have videos of examples of physical rehabilitation tests to make the course more dynamic and practical. But I’m aware that Level 1 was rather theoretical.

★★★★★

Well-popularized and very interesting course.

★★★★★

Lots of theories and concepts I wasn’t familiar with. I feel I’m going to have to go back to the course notes a lot to fully understand the concepts.

★★★★★

Very interesting!

★★★★★

I was hoping for a more condensed introduction and from module 6 onwards a little more depth.

★★★★★

Thank you for the great course. Instructor was easy to understand/engaging.
Good information given.

★★★★★

A course in French would have been appreciated, but good course.

★★★★★

Very good, comprehensive course. Well-populated but always giving us the right terms to be able to communicate well with other health professionals. Very experienced instructor who gives us good tips. Thank you very much!

★★★★★

Very good

★★★★★

-A great overview of oncology rehabilitation.
– Makes me want to continue to Level 2.
-I really appreciated the case histories

★★★★★

I would have liked to have had access to the slides during and after. Often we can’t see what’s written via the video.

★★★★★

Excellent course and instructor

Good course, but took much longer to complete than the number of hours initially planned.

I enjoyed the course, it gave me new knowledge and made me aware of important elements to consider in my assessment and interventions. However, I still have a lot of questions about the applicability of all these concepts in my work context (CLSC, very small team: no physio, no nutritionist really, little contact with the hospital oncology team). I’m an occupational therapist, and I have the strong impression that I’m missing a physiotherapist to help me complete the client’s overall assessment and ensure comprehensive management. I feel somewhat helpless in this situation.

Interesting course overall. However, as an occupational therapist, I felt that the course was aimed more at physiotherapists.

Great course, but it takes much longer than 6h to assimilate and take notes. It would be nice to specify this in the comments 🙂

★★★★★

More than interesting course to take, even if oncology patients are not my main area of practice. I sincerely believe that healthcare institutions would benefit from having trained physios in oncology departments.

Well organized, keeps attention for a modular course

★★★★★

I don’t think the ratio of medical to conservative treatment was the same. I was expecting more treatment recommendations and more specificity, but otherwise the course was very clear and helped me clarify my role as an physiotherapy technologist with my oncology patients.

Very interesting. However, I’m wondering about the application in occupational therapy in an acute hospital setting.

★★★★★

excellent! It gave me a better understanding and enabled me to make better interventions with my patients referred to palliative home support.

In the modules, the presentation of the videos did not make it easy to see the content on the screen. So I think a presentation like module 9.2 would have been more interesting.

Very interesting course. Lots of clinical examples and topics to learn more about the basics of cancer and its side effects. However, level 1 seems to take longer than indicated: 7.5h instead of 6h.

This is a very interesting and well organized Level I course. It gives a good overview of the cancer continuum and common problems that are within the physiotherapy domain to address. I highly recommend this course for anyone who may deal with people that have been previously treated for cancer to increase their knowledge on this topic and feel more confident in approaching these conditions more globally in rehab. It is always such a pleasure to assist a course from Mary-Ann, and I can’t wait to begin Level II.

★★★★★

I’m a physiotherapy technologist and I feel limited in my legal skills when faced with the very enriching subject matter of this course. There’s a lot of talk about assessment in oncology rehabilitation, so it’s something reserved for physio…

★★★★★

excellent course, thank you!
