Summary
Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the acquisition of motor skills. In Canada, it affects 6–8% of school-aged children. These children are known to have limited participation in physical activity and an increased risk of developing cardio-metabolic diseases. In addition, the impact of their motor difficulties on reduced self-esteem is well documented.
People living with DCD find it difficult to learn new motor skills, which limits their participation in physical activity. Specific and adapted interventions have been proven effective in supporting motor learning. It is therefore essential for practitioners to be well trained in evidence-based approaches. The ultimate goal is for the child to develop strategies for learning new motor skills, thereby improving their sense of competence in physical activity and becoming an active, healthy adult, both physically and mentally.
This course is designed for physiotherapists so they can properly guide parents, teachers, coaches, and others. However, the content is presented in accessible language so that other professionals, such as occupational therapists, kinesiologists, coaches, physical education teachers, and physicians, can also benefit. Please note that a formal DCD diagnosis is not required to apply the intervention strategies taught in this course.
This course is based both on our clinical experience and on international evidence and consensus. It focuses specifically on interventions for children with a DCD profile. Screening and diagnostic assessment are covered in a previous training available (Developmental Coordination Disorder: understanding, screening, assessing).

A very practical and concrete training that I will be able to immediately apply in my work with my clients. I feel better equipped to address the challenges that children with ASD face and the challenges their inclusion in physical education presents. A big thank you to the two dynamic trainers.
