Summary
Hip impairments may involve underlying pelvic floor impairments due to a shared fascia and neuromuscular plane. While hip impairments are commonly treated in orthopedic physiotherapy settings, the pelvic floor component is commonly missed, which can result in suboptimal outcomes for the patient. This brief introductory course will introduce the role of the pelvic floor in hip function and shine light on how to properly screen for pelvic floor involvement in hip impairments.
Objectives
- Understand that common hip pathology may be accompanied by pelvic floor dysfunction
- Comprehend differential diagnosis options for lesser-known hip and pelvic floor pathology including greater trochanteric bursitis and femoral neck stress fracture
- Comprehend basic components of hip evaluation
