Summary

This online course will present the state of knowledge on the management of low back pain.

First, we will look at the epidemiology of low back pain and its various possible trajectories. Knowledge of these elements is essential to properly plan our interventions. Second, we will discuss the potential causes of pain onset and persistence. For example, although the active and passive structures of the spine probably contribute to the onset of low back pain, these factors appear to be minimally involved in the persistence of pain. We will discuss other factors that are known to be involved in the persistence of low back pain. Third, we will discuss the effectiveness of different interventions for the treatment of low back pain. For example, a summary of recommendations from various clinical practice guidelines will be presented. Fourth, we will briefly discuss the different classifications that are used to optimize the treatment of low back pain such as prognosis-based care models. Finally, we will present promising treatment avenues to optimize the management of this condition.

Throughout the course, a few case histories will be presented to contextualize the elements discussed.

Following the course, you will be at the cutting edge of knowledge regarding the epidemiology, pathophysiology and treatment of low back pain, which will allow you to optimize your management of this clientele.
