Are you well-equipped to contribute positively as a physiotherapist and/or healthcare professional to the breastfeeding experience of a baby you have in treatment with you? Do you know how to conduct a basic orofacial musculoskeletal examination of a baby with torticollis and/or plagiocephaly? How to recognize musculoskeletal challenges when observing latch? What to do when a baby presents with jaw tension or asymmetry?
This course is aimed at healthcare professionals working in pediatrics with children aged 0-4 months. We’ll talk about breastfeeding and tips and considerations for optimizing bottle feeding. Medical issues and weight gain during this particular period will be addressed more specifically by an experienced nurse with this clientele, who is also an IBCLC.

Objectives :
- Know the latest evidence on the benefits of breastfeeding for babies ;
- Recognize a good latch and identify areas where improvement is needed ;
- Know the basics for conducting a physical assessment of a baby between 0 and 4 months of age, taking into account the specific characteristics of the baby’s function (bottle-feeding or breast-feeding) ;
- Early detection of torticollis or asymmetry in newborns ;
- Understand the impact of torticollis on breastfeeding ;
- Know the physiotherapy intervention guidelines for babies with asymmetries, torticollis and/or plagiocephaly in the context of breastfeeding ;
- Know how to adapt the physical assessment of babies between 0 and 4 months, taking into account their breastfeeding or bottle-feeding behavior ;
- Be familiar with orofacial assessment of babies between 0 and 4 months ;
- Know how to recognize medical issues and refer appropriately to optimize support for the breastfeeding dyad when a problem is suspected ;
- Know the current evidence on oral restrictive brakes and recognize when to refer and to which professionals.
