François Desmeules, PT, PhD, OPPQ Fellow, is a physiotherapist who graduated from Université Laval in 2000. He earned a PhD in Epidemiology from Université Laval in 2010.
Professor Desmeules practiced as a clinician for more than ten years at CHU de Québec. He currently works as a clinician in private practice and in the Department of Orthopaedics at CHUM in an advanced practice role. He is also a Senior Researcher at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital Research Centre and at the CHUM Research Centre.
His research interests focus on: 1) the development and evaluation of new models of care in physiotherapy, including advanced practice roles; 2) the diagnosis and evaluation of rehabilitation and orthopaedic interventions for shoulder and knee conditions; and 3) evidence-based practice and knowledge synthesis in the fields of rehabilitation and orthopaedics.
He is the author of more than 150 studies in rehabilitation and orthopaedics published in various scientific journals, and he is currently a Senior Research Scholar funded by the FRQ-S. Over the years, he has been involved in numerous projects related to professional physiotherapy practice and has served as an expert, consultant, or administrator for several organizations and institutions in Quebec, across Canada, and internationally.
