Summary

Lateral ligament injuries of the ankle occur frequently and have a relatively high recurrence rate leading to chronic ankle instability (CAI). Patients with CAI frequently display deficits in sensorimotor performance which perpetuate the problem. The identification of key tests which could identify factors predisposing the individual to CAI as soon as possible following lateral ankle ligament sprains would appear to be of paramount importance. This webinar will present tests which could identify those predisposed to CAI. Syndesmosis injuries of the ankle though less common may also have a role in the development of CAI, the webinar will also discuss how to identify and manage syndesmosis injuries to reduce the risk of developing CAI.

Objectives

  1. Develop an understanding of why chronic instability might occur
  2. Understand the role ankle syndesmosis injuries could play in chronic ankle instability
  3. Identify the key tests which could identify a predisposition to the development of chronic ankle instability
