Spinal pain is commonplace in front-line care, but when it masks an inflammatory pathology such as spondyloarthritis, the consequences of delayed diagnosis can be significant. This clinical course aims to better equip physiotherapists and other front-line healthcare professionals to recognize the early manifestations of axial and peripheral spondyloarthropathies.
Through a clear, evidence-based presentation, you’ll learn to:
- Distinguish the warning signs of inflammatory spinal disease;
- Identify extra-articular manifestations that point to systemic involvement;
- Use practical decision-making tools, such as the reference criteria recommended by international guidelines (e.g. NICE) and the SPADE tool, to know when to refer;
- Apply this knowledge to realistic clinical situations, using interactive case vignettes to illustrate the subtleties of differential diagnosis.
Objectives
- Understand the consequences of misdiagnosis and the importance of early recognition for this type of condition Identify typical symptoms of axial and peripheral spondyloarthropathies to better differentiate these disorders from mechanical pain
- Integrate decision-making criteria and clinical tools to effectively refer patients to family doctors or specialists
