Summary

Whether it’s due to a persistent injury, a concussion, a car accident, a work stoppage, or a poor performance in a competition, our patients may face stressful situations that can hinder their rehabilitation or the achievement of their personal or sports goals.

As healthcare professionals, we must be aware of these stressful life situations in order to provide effective support to our patients. Jean-Michel Pelletier, Sports Psychologist, now specializes in the impact of psychological micro-traumas on the return to function. In this course, he will teach you how to provide appropriate intervention, enabling you to better assist your patients and accelerate their progress.

Topics covered in this course include:

  • What is a micro-trauma?
  • What is post-traumatic stress?
  • How does a traumatic situation impact the patient’s rehabilitation?
  • How can we assist our patients following a traumatic situation?
  • What questions should be asked?
  • Understanding stress and anxiety better
  • Developing tools for an anxious or stressed client
  • Presentation of case studies (concussion, car accident, chronic injuries in athletes)

Objectives

This course aims to provide medical and sports rehabilitation professionals with a thorough understanding of psychological micro-traumas, their impacts on patients, and effective strategies for their management.

I now have a better understanding of how to deal with patients with microtraumas.

★★★★★

I found the course lengthy. The instructor often strays too far from the material. I feel the course could last an hour instead of 2.5. Part 2 is better, but Part 1 takes a really long time to get to the heart of the matter and I don’t feel much better equipped. The subject is great, but the formatting needs work.

Very good course. I also find it important that the nuances between an intervention from another professional other than a shrink be made.

Mr. Pelletier is very interesting and masters his subject very well. I really liked the links with athletes, especially when the mental blocks were brought up.

Great introductory course, to help us assess our clients’ potential needs and better guide them in the future. Very good tools to help us with our patients/clients in their often negative past experiences, enabling us to continue with our treatment plans.
